Our History

In 1986, concerned members and church leaders of our town came together to try and address the issue of hunger and other unmet needs of some of our neighbors in our mountain community of Nederland, Colorado.

In the true spirit of community, the Nederland Presbyterian Community Church offered a room for weekly food distribution, and St. Rita’s provided space for storage of back stock. For the next 25 years, while very grateful for the spaces provided, the volunteers faced the arduous tasks involved in the weekly set up/take down necessary for food distribution.

In 2012, the Town of Nederland offered the newly renamed Nederland Food Pantry space in Nederland Community Center’s West Wing. Our new space also allowed us to revitalize the adjoining passageway behind our room and transform it into a garden that now helps us provide our clients with fresh produce and herbs.

During and after the “100 Year Flood” in 2013, we partnered with the Town to be on the front line in providing emergency shelter/food, social services, and emergency relief information for those affected in our mountain community. As a result of this experience and its’ lingering effects, we expanded our services to our neighbors throughout the Peak-to-Peak mountain area.

Our Mission and Goal

Our mission is to relieve hunger and provide basic needs support to the Peak-to-Peak Community in a respective and compassionate manner.

Our goal is to continue to focus on building collaborations and partnerships to ensure our clients and our community continue to receive needed services.

Our Funding

The Nederland Food Pantry and Clothing Closet:

  • Relies on the generosity of our individual donors
  • Seeks assistance from agencies, foundations and organizations
  • Solicits donations from businesses

As well as weekly food distribution, the Nederland Food Pantry also participates in the annual Human Services Fair, distributes several hundred Holiday Food Boxes along with new toys and clothing each December, partners with the NCPC summer Sox and Sandwiches program, works closely with the Community Clothing Closet and offers volunteer opportunities to local organizations and community members.
